Halo Wars 2 Give Away

Hi Folks.

I am giving away one Halo Wars 2 code this Easter. To win that you just have to come up with a creative tagline for the upcoming Halo 6 game. You know how Halo 4 had the tagline Wake up John? Or Halo 3 had Finish the Fight? Like that. It can be funny, serious, scary…it can be anything really. As long as it amazes me. Yes, me. I will be choosing the winner based on which one I like most.

For a chance to win follow the instructions below:

  • Must follow my Instagram account Girls Love Halo.
  • Must repost the Give Away post on your profile with your own unique Halo 6 tagline.
  • Must have your profile on public and must tag me in the post, otherwise I won’t see it.
  • Give Away ends this Monday (April, 17th) at 8 pm CEST.

The winner will be announced on Monday around 8 pm CEST with a post on my Instagram account. The code will be send to you via Direct Message.

Good Luck!

Halo 15th Anniversary – Yo, you hit puberty

I can’t believe that I have been playing Halo for close to 15 years now. I can’t believe that the game that has influenced my whole life in ways I could never have imagined, is 15 years old. 15 YEARS! And to me, it still plays like it is brand new.

Today is November 15th 2016 and exactly 15 years ago, on November 15th 2001, Halo: Combat Evolved was released along with the first ever Xbox. Right now I am celebrating this beautiful day by listening to the epic music of Halo. Check the link below if you are in the mood for some Martin O’Donnell tunes:

Listen and marvel at the greatness that is Halo’s music.

Here in Germany the Xbox was released in March 2002, so that’s why my Halo journey started a few months later. But it started. And it continues to this day. Halo is as big a part of my life as is food or my friends. It has impacted so massively that I’m still in awe. I have made friends in different parts of the world, I have traveled to L.A. and attended Halo Fest and I had a film team from 343 in my house to shoot a feature about me. The last two events were the absolute highlight to me. I still feel so honored and grateful. My house is filled with tons of collectibles, I am running this blog about Halo, I run the Girls Love Halo Instagram account and I read everything I find about the lore. Halo is everywhere in my life. On top of this, my fiancee and I thought about naming our daughter Cortana. Don’t worry though, we only thought about it. The passion for Halo has always bonded us. In fact, my fiancee, Alex, introduced me to the game in the first place. So I will forever be thankful to him for doing so. The rest of my family thinks I am crazy. Most of my friends think I am crazy. But that is completely fine.

I am very emotional right now. Maybe I should turn down this music? Nah, it just brings up so many beautiful memories.

I want to give thanks to Halo now. I want to give thanks to Bungie and to 343. I want to give thanks to the Halo community, for I am not alone in my praise for this game. The ever lasting love for Halo is real people. It’s the realest shit you’ll see.

Thank you Halo.

For letting me feel.

For letting me fight.

For letting me evolve with you.

The Halo Community – Podcasts

Every time I say to myself  „I am only going to do…this and that“, I always end up doing something much bigger. This time I wanted to write a short article about my favorite Halo podcasts, when I came up with the idea of making it into a series where I highlight several groups of the Halo community. I am such a big fan of this community and especially now, since it has grown so much or dare I say grown again. I love to show what I like and admire, so this is what you can expect: To start this series off I will be highlighting my favorite Halo podcasts. After that you will see features of Cosplay, Blogs, Fanart, Instagram accounts and Forgers. So without further ado, let us head right into the fun.

My Halo podcast adventure started with the awesome Bryce brothers and their legendary podcast Drunken Halo. It must have been their second year of doing the show when I started to listen. Right now they are in their fifth year. The anniversary episode 150 was just released.

What can you expect? In short: Beer, Brothers and Halo. DrunkenHalo_logo

But yeah, of course there is more to this podcast. Justin and Travis are two brothers from Texas. That in itself is quite a unique characteristic. Not the Texas thing of course. Or is it? The Drunken Halo podcast has no regular release date. The Bryce brothers record a show when they are in the mood and life let’s them. What you will hear is a very personal 1-2 hours of whatever interests them. You will always hear some great music at the beginning since Justin has a pretty good taste in music. If you like Pop music you might not like that part of the show very much. During the time I have been listening to them I have gotten to know them pretty well. They share moments of their life openly and that makes this podcast so special to me. These guys are genuine. They are true to themselves and that is something I like in a person. I have cried listening to them and laughed my ass off. Most of the time during the same show. That’s just how they roll. You will hear their opinions on Halo topics, you will hear strong opinions and you will hear opinions along with explicit wording if you catch my meaning….what the hell, Fuck that shit and puffy nipples is all I am going to say here.

Sadly this is the reason why 343 has not really shown some appreciation and recognition towards Drunken Halo. The content is too explicit I guess.

Justin and Travis have gathered quite a following over the years and the Drunken Halo community is full of interesting and active Halo fans. What really made Drunken Halo more publicly known were their Halo tournaments. I can’t remember how many they have had exactly, but it has been a lot. Probably around 8 or so. They have all been a huge success and have brought many people together.

Where you can find them :

WebsiteTwitter, iTunes and Twitch.

Another amazing podcast is Podtacular. It is by far the most popular in the community and they are the ones who have been around the longest. To be precise, since June 2005! Yes, 11 years. That is quite impressive. The hosts of this weekly podcast are Dust Storm, Brent Gamer and GLewis.

What can you expect? In short: News, news and news. Podtacular_logo

When I listen to an episode of Podtacular I am always surprised on how well informed these guys are. If you want to be on top of what is new in the Halo universe, this podcast is for you. You find in-depths discussions on the latest Content updates, a thorough walk-through of the campaigns, coverage of certain community events and whatever happened newswise in that week.

What I really enjoyed were the Hunt The Truth episodes prior to the Halo 5 release. After every new episode from HTT, Podtacular recorded an episode where they talked about every detail. I was addicted.

Where you can find them:

WebsiteTwitteriTunes and Twitch.

The following podcasts I listen to every now and then and you should check them out:

Podcast Evolved – The Halo lore podcast. If you love Halo lore as much as I do, definitely check out these lovely bunch. 5 Halo fans, 1 woman is among them, talk about the lore of the Halo universe and cover some news and content updates. I want to highlight the fact that they have a woman, Krysta, on board, because it is so rare. I personally would love to listen to a Halo podcast made by women. Maybe some day…

Delta Halo podcast – The new guys from the block. Sergeant, Cat and MattyIce are the hosts of this brand new Halo podcast. Over the course of the currently 33 episodes they evolved to a Pro league Halo podcast. They cover all the relevant news of the HCS and are the only ones who stream their episodes on Youtube as well. If you love competitive Halo this is your podcast.

Girls Love Halo Interview with Katie

Another Girls Love Halo Interview is up. My fellow Fotus Mafia clan mate and beautiful IG friend Katie aka The Halo Turtle answered my 10 questions. Enjoy!

1. When did you start playing Halo?

Well, my brother used to play it all the time, he actually hosted his very own Halo tournament for one of his birthdays. We never really got along until we found gaming as a common ground. I first started playing Halo with him, I was about 10 or 11, we would spend hours together, he would show me all the glitches and let me play through the campaign, I even use to help him lag switch while playing online. Once he grew out of it that was the end for me, that is, until I rekindled my friendship with my BFF Kim, she showed me Halo Reach (I’ll tell you more about that on question 7).

2. If you could choose to be one character of the Halo universe, who would you be?

I wouldn’t want to be anyone, that’s way too much pressure. Having to fight and save the world from scary ass aliens! 😉 I’m just kidding; I would love to be Dr. Catherine Halsey, I mean we do already have the same first name, she is the whole reason the Master Chief is who he is. She got to know all of the spartans before they even became spartans, before their training and augmentations, she got to choose who made it and who didn’t. She was the head honcho of the entire Spartan Program and I think that’s freaking awesome.

3. Do you have a favorite Halo quote?

Cortana- “Just one question: what if you miss?“
Master Chief- “I won’t.“
I know this is more than one but they just can’t be said seperately. This is from Halo 2, up until this point we all thought Chief was a badass but this right here confirmed it. He likes to push and test his limits and, of course, show off for Cortana.

4. What do you love most about Halo?

The community definitely. I love seeing all of the screenshots and montages, all the custom Halo figures and toy shots. I love that all these people who don’t know each other can come together over one video game and be friends, be there for each other. I love how we all support and defend each other.

5. What do you hate most about Halo?

I didn’t really hate anything about the actual game until recently. I absolutely can’t stand that Halo 5 isn’t split screen or how the Swat game type plays. I LOVED Swat in Halo Reach but they butchered it in Halo 5 in my opinion. Also, I’m not entirely that happy that they didn’t put in a voting system. I would love to be able to choose the maps I play on. Other than that I hate that people quit out of games so often and that if I lag out of a game because of the shitty servers it’s put on me because I “quit out“ and then I get banned. I wish there were a way that they could tell the difference.

6. How would you rate your skills in Halo? (1-10)

Well, considering I very rarely go positive I would say a 4 and that’s probably still too high lol. I just love the game, to me it’s not about winning or losing, it’s about playing and having fun doing so.

7. What is your favorite Halo game?

Hands down Halo Reach and that’s all thanks to my bff Kim. We would spend hours, days, playing and drinking and just having fun. Neither one of us were working so I would go over to her house and we would spend all day doing the challenges. We would play Swat until our fingers bled and would rage at all the campers and shit talkers until our faces turned blue. In the end it was all fun and games, we loved it. We met so many amazing people who we still play with to this day. In my opinion Halo Reach was the best made Halo just because of the multiplayer and the community.

8. What do you prefer? Campaign or multiplayer?

Definitely multiplayer, even though I’m terrible at it, I love playing against other people and making friends. Don’t get me wrong the campaigns are amazing I just find it more fun to rage at “noobs“ and battle it out with the sniper and shotgun.

9. Which games besides Halo do you play?

In the past I didn’t play anything but Halo but now that I’m older, have my own place and my own money, I’ve broadened my horizons. I’ve been playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Grand Theft Auto, and Destiny on Xbox also, Pokemon, Zelda, and TMNT on 3DS. That’s just naming the ones I play most. I like to download all of the free games just to try them out but, so far, I really only like FPS games.

10. If you had to endure one level of any Halo game in real life, which one would it be and why?

There are so many great ones to choose from but The Flood (excuse my language) creep me the fuck out so definitely not any of those levels. Maybe Truth and Reconciliation from Halo: CE. I love that you start out that mission with a Sniper and have to sneak around, kill all the enemies, and board their mothership to save Captain Keyes (he is one of my favorite characters).
