Pick of the Week – Amazing concept art by Amanda

I have been following this woman on Instagram for a while and she constantly manages to surprise me with her talent and creativity. Will you look at this creature she came up with? She calls it „Krer“ and it is a Needler type. I really wish that this woman would work with 343. I love her style! And she was just featured on Grim’s latest update, so maybe they have her on their radar now. Check out her work here:

Do you even Halo or random thoughts of the Day

Nowadays when I play Slayer, I often get frustrated. The map rotation is at it’s worst it seems. My all time favorite map Plaza never comes up. NEVER! It’s like 343 knows that I like this map and wants to punish me for something I did. I always end up playing on Mercy. This map comes up every time I start Slayer. I hate Mercy.

Lord have Mercy.

My boyfriend and I also checked out the Weapon Tuning Test. I couldn’t get a kill. It seems like the BR is now 5 shots? I didn’t look it up so far. Maybe I should now…

Ok, I just checked. Well, 343 feels that some of the weapons in Halo 5 are not balanced or rather overpowered and don’t play the role they were supposed to play. I only cross-read it, but it seems that every weapon (12 are affected by this) is being made harder to use. Only the Active Camo will be enhanced in some way. You can read all of it here.

The testing will end on October 2 and in early November we will have a bigger update with the new and improved? weapons. I am very sceptical but we will see.

Halo: Retribution

Although I am still finishing the Karen Traviss trilogy right now, I am already hyped for the next installment of Halo lore. On August 29th Troy Denning’s Halo: Retribution will release. The cover art alone is just beautiful!

Here is the official summary:

December 2553. Less than a year after the end of the Covenant War, a string of violent incidents continues to threaten the tenuous peace in human-held space, culminating in the assassination of UNSC fleet admiral Graselyn Tuwa and the abduction of her family. It is a provocation so outrageous that the Office of Naval Intelligence must retaliate swiftly and ferociously—but only after its operatives identify her killer and rescue the hostages.

This mission will be the first for homicide-detective-turned-ONI-operative Veta Lopis and her young team of Spartan-IIIs, and something feels wrong from the start. The obvious suspect is an infamous Brute who leads the Keepers of the One Freedom, an ex-Covenant splinter group in fierce opposition to the UNSC. But Lopis and her team soon realize that the truth is much more insidious than they could ever have imagined, and with Fred-104, Kelly-087, and Linda-058 of Blue Team for combat support, they must stop a plan hatched in the bowels of the secret research station Argent Moon — a plan so sinister it could destroy all those still reeling from thirty years of intergalactic conflict…

I haven’t read Last Light by Troy Denning yet, but this seems to be kind of a successor to it. At least some of the same characters will appear. Most importantly Veta Lopis. I am really looking forward to her character and story and I will definitely read Last Light before Retribution.

The story is set in pre Halo 4 times, which is a little sad, because I am dying to read more Halo 5 era stuff like the one story in Fractures. Which one was that? The one where BB and Osman land on this secretive planet? Gosh, excuse my memory. It is the worst.

Hah! I just found out. It is Rossbach’s World. I really liked that story! And I would love to see more lore from this era. But that is a tricky part for 343 I guess. I don’t think they will make the same mistake as they did with Halo 4 and the Karen Traviss trilogy. Telling the complete pre story of the game in the books and the people who haven’t read that and only played the game (like me, back then) are completely lost. I don’t think that they would do that again, so I don’t expect much or any Halo 5 sequel lore soon.

But 343 could always extend the very weak plot of Halo 5: Guardians couldn’t they? They definitely could.

Halo 15th Anniversary – Yo, you hit puberty

I can’t believe that I have been playing Halo for close to 15 years now. I can’t believe that the game that has influenced my whole life in ways I could never have imagined, is 15 years old. 15 YEARS! And to me, it still plays like it is brand new.

Today is November 15th 2016 and exactly 15 years ago, on November 15th 2001, Halo: Combat Evolved was released along with the first ever Xbox. Right now I am celebrating this beautiful day by listening to the epic music of Halo. Check the link below if you are in the mood for some Martin O’Donnell tunes:

Listen and marvel at the greatness that is Halo’s music.

Here in Germany the Xbox was released in March 2002, so that’s why my Halo journey started a few months later. But it started. And it continues to this day. Halo is as big a part of my life as is food or my friends. It has impacted so massively that I’m still in awe. I have made friends in different parts of the world, I have traveled to L.A. and attended Halo Fest and I had a film team from 343 in my house to shoot a feature about me. The last two events were the absolute highlight to me. I still feel so honored and grateful. My house is filled with tons of collectibles, I am running this blog about Halo, I run the Girls Love Halo Instagram account and I read everything I find about the lore. Halo is everywhere in my life. On top of this, my fiancee and I thought about naming our daughter Cortana. Don’t worry though, we only thought about it. The passion for Halo has always bonded us. In fact, my fiancee, Alex, introduced me to the game in the first place. So I will forever be thankful to him for doing so. The rest of my family thinks I am crazy. Most of my friends think I am crazy. But that is completely fine.

I am very emotional right now. Maybe I should turn down this music? Nah, it just brings up so many beautiful memories.

I want to give thanks to Halo now. I want to give thanks to Bungie and to 343. I want to give thanks to the Halo community, for I am not alone in my praise for this game. The ever lasting love for Halo is real people. It’s the realest shit you’ll see.

Thank you Halo.

For letting me feel.

For letting me fight.

For letting me evolve with you.

September you can come – Anvil’s Legacy Update

September is going to be a great Halo month. Not only is Forge coming to Windows 10 PCs, but we also get the Anvil’s Legacy content update. That is going to be the 9th free update 343 is releasing. Which is pretty sweet. I also think that this update is the first one that we didn’t know of before. The last and biggest update was the Warzone Firefight one at the end of July.

The coolest thing to me is the Haven Remake map called Mercy. Have a look at some gameplay on it here:

Don’t you think it looks amazing? I think so! I loved Haven on Halo 4. Such a well made map. The remake is set on Sanghelios as you can very well see with the aesthetics. You have the Steampunk-ish optics, with a water stream and a fountain in the basement. And the huge claws/hands that are holding a slipspace portal kind of a thing, god, it just looks amazing.

The Warzone map Temple looks really good as well. But…wait a minute! What the actual fuck? Is this a Hunters Fuel Rod Cannon I just saw? Damn right it is. OMG, that is the coolest thing. I can’t wait to try it out.

Next to all the good stuff already revealed, Halo lore fans should mark their calendars on September 6th. 343’s ‚Mythos: A Guide to the Story of Halo‘ will be released on that date.

And on September 20th another long awaited lore book will release. Halo: Fractures features several short stories from authors such as Troy Denning or Joseph Staten.

September please come! And bring some cold with you. It’s so hot here in Germany 🙂
